Real Training
Fire extinguishing with VR technology

Real Training AS is a Norwegian technology business focusing on research and development using virtual reality.

By using virtual reality, we can move the fire training into the meeting room. This way the exercise can be performed anywhere and anytime throughout the year.

The participant sees the room and experiences the fire through the VR glasses. The person is at liberty to move freely around, both back and forth as well as sideways.

The participants train indoor at their own workplace by extinguishing a virtual fire which is perceived very realistic, without using combustible materials, with no extinguishing agent or smoke, in an environment that is similar to their own workplace and without special clothing

Pivot has been responsible for the user experience and hardware development of the training simulator.

series 1

Real training came to Pivot needing assistance to merge their concept with hardware.

Series 1 was the first version that Pivot developed for Real training. We had strong focus on the below factors.

-Set up of the system

-Overview of equipment

-Protection of equipment

-Robustness

-Realism for users

-Assembly and maintenance

Virtual reality technology is moving at an astonishing rate. To keep up with this and give Real training a competitive advantage we early on decided to use 3D printing technology as the production method for plastic parts. The secondary advantage 3D printing parts is there is zero investment costs in tooling, when large investments are made in tooling it is much harder to justify making changes to parts as new technologies become available.

Series one was a big success resulting in a cooperation agreement between Real Training and Securitas being signed in July 2016.

After only 6 months after the launch of series 1 HTC came out with a tracking solution. The technology on series one was very custom and by adopting the HTC technolgy we saved allot of time in assembly and improved tracking perforamce. Due to using 3D printing as a production method we turned around a new system extremely fast to incorporate the new tracking technology. Needs changed from users and the system when in transportation had to become lighter. Pivot developed a lightweight tripod system and we introduce a liquid weight solution, the result was a weight saving of 10KG. Pivot has produced and delivered the first prototype systems and compiled documentation so the system can now be produced on an industrial scale.
