ESNA introduces the new Tern design, a surface effect ship for offshore wind crew transfer. The Tern uses the air cushion not only for motion damping during transit, but also to increase operational wave height when transfering personnel to wind turbines in offshore windfarms. The base Tern design has a maximum service speed of above 40 knots in calm sea, it can have a draught of less than 1m, and can transfer personnel safely in sea states above 2m significant wave height. The vessel can easily be adapted to other markets, and the design can be scaled to meet even tougher environments. www.esna.no
Esna gave Pivot the task to create a functional industrial design that reflects the essence of the vessel.
From 2D drawings of the general arrangement, we modeled a sketch of the boat with all specified requirements. In discussion with ESNA we made a design and a full CAD model of it. Renderings of this model was a great way to visualize, the new vessel.
